Bev’s Hills – Week 9

Sorry for the delay in getting Bev’s Hills to you this week, life is busy busy busy right now! Like, I planned to find my watch today, but just couldn’t find the time. No but seriously, sorry. We’ve got two weeks left until the holidays people! Here’s what’s coming up…

Winter Ball

Our annual Winter Ball is next Tuesday (yay)! It’s going to be an awesome evening of great food and great company at the fabulous Netherwood Hotel. Just a note to those of you who take 3 hours to get ready, we’ll be meeting in Trev around 5.30pm (ish) before all walking to get the coach together at 6.30pm. In the words of Dizzee Rascal “Fix Up Look Sharp”, and remember the dress code is formal so everyone will be looking fancy af.

Ale Festival and Pub Quiz

“I have respect for beer” – Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe knows what’s up. Yep, the Furness College Real Ale and Cider Festival returns to Trevor for another long weekend of regional and national ales and ciders, great student and local bands, bar sports and of course, the pub quiz. It’s all happening this Thursday to Sunday, and isn’t to be missed. Join the facebook event here for all the deets.

With the Ale Festival going on, we’ve moved the weekly pub quiz from Wednesday evening to Saturday evening. Still the usual drill, £1 entry, cash prize for the winners and the propect of moving your team up our leaderboard! The specialist round is Stoke City FC.

Sankt Nikolaus Celebration

In German-speaking countries it’s called ‘Sankt Nikolaus’ and in Benelux countries ‘Sinterklaas’… Here, you might know it as ‘St Nicholas’ Day’! We have a very special guest coming to Furness this Friday and he’ll be handing out free sweets and presents from 12-3pm in our foyer! That’s right, it’s Santa Claus! Come down and have a picture, a chat and get Christmassy with us as we approach the end of term!

We’ll also be raising money for the homeless, so if you have any spare change, it would be appreciated!

Mind Your Own Business

Nope, I’m not being rude, Furness’ business enterprise competition is back! If you’re interested in enterprise and part of a student run company then you can apply to take part in the Mind Your Own Business competition to be in with the chance of winning the use of an office for all of next term. For more info like our facebook or email Eilidh at [email protected]. The quicker you get in touch the better!

Congratulations to our new JCR

We had election results on Friday evening, and as one JCR’s time in office draws to a close, a new one rises to take it’s place. So we’d like to take this opportunity to say congratulations to Qas Younis, Karl Ignacio, Tom Coleman, Adam Butler, Esther Potter, Beth Margerison, James Fletcher Adams, Sophie Chan, Claudia Poole, Grace PB, Mike Suffield, Ellie McCann, Savni Sawant, Nicola Cresswell and Sarah Wheeler for being voted in as the next Furness JCR Exec. We’re super excited for you and wish you all the best as you lead Furness throughout 2016.

That’s it for this week

Ah, now for the hard part: this is the last ever Bev’s Hills of my entire life. There’s a tear in my eye, I’m currently listening to Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah and getting very emosh. Did you know that the three most commonly spoken English words are “Hello, Stop and Taxi”? Ok I’m dragging it out now, I just don’t want to go. All good things must come to an end though, like a GoBurrito or not dying on Flappy Bird (lol remember that).

Ok I’m done. Love you Furness,

James xxxx
