FurCAT – new for 2015
In addition to our First Year College Reps who are on hand all year to help our First Year students, we now have a new Welfare system starting this year. We no longer have individual College Advisors, as this system did not appear to working too well. We now have a dedicated welfare team consisting of Kevin Huggett (Welfare Team Leader), Bev Whitaker (College Administrator/College Advisor), Olga Gomez-Cash (College Vice President/College Advisor), Jing Lu (College Advisor) and Robin Hughes (College Advisor). There is a new welfare e-mail address which should be used for all queries or to make an appointment, this is firstname.lastname@example.org. This email address will be checked daily Monday to Friday and we will respond within 24hr on these days. We will also be holding drop in sessions in the College on Monday 5.00 – 6.00 in A13 and A19, and on Thursday 2.30 – 3.30 in A19 and A9.
In addition to the above, we now have a dedicated College Welfare Officer, Taryn Whitford, who will be working with the FurCAT and will be supporting our students and holding information sessions on various aspects of welfare over the year. Taryn will be based in A18 at times to be advised.

Outside of the above, Bev is available Monday – Friday 9.00am – 3.00pm for general queries as well as welfare issues, or just pop in for a chat!
Furness College can offer short term College Loans of up to £100 for those Furnessians who find themselves in need. The money can be made available on the same day, but must be repaid within six weeks to the Cashiers Office in University House.

FURNESS SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Furness College offers annually a limited number of awards (around £200-£250 each) to present and former undergraduate members of the College who wish to commence postgraduate study at Lancaster University. The awards will take into consideration academic ability, financial hardship and an involvement in the College’s activities.
A completed application form (available from the College Office), an academic reference and a covering letter should be sent to the Principal, Dr Wlodek Tych via the College Administrator.
Candidates may be required to attend for interview.

VACATION TRAVEL AWARDS
The college has a small amount of money available to make grants to undergraduates (normally first or second year students) who wish to travel for some educational purpose, but not as part of their degree, during the Spring or Summer Vacations.
These typically vary from £50 to £150 and are limited by the funds available. Applications will be judged by the Senior Advisor and JCR President who will look for projects which have some educational component but which are not simply work that is required for a particular University course. The recipient of a grant is required to submit a report on his or her project by the last day of the following term.
If you would like to apply for a vacation travel award, application forms are available from Bev in the College Office. The form should be completed and sent to the Senior Advisor, Kevin Huggett c/o Bev in the college office by the following dates:
