Trev’s Times – WEEK TWENTY

So week 20 is finally here, it’s nearly time for the Easter break! I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t wait. I also can’t wait for some warmer weather. Shout out to everyone who braved the wind and cold to watch the outdoor sports this last weekend, hope you’ve got the feeling back in your toes. Anyway, here’s what’s going on this week.

Patriots

A big big thank you to everyone who came to take part in or support Patriots. It was a long but fun weekend, and it was great to see so many of you there. A big congratulations to Cartmel for their win. It was a close one, but we are so so proud of all you Furnessians. A shout out to our amazing sports officers Tom and Jess for all their hardwork organising Patriots. We hope you guys had a great time. Looking forward to next year!

Nick Lewis Memorial Match

On Saturday we had held our annual Nick Lewis Memorial Football Match. Well done to Furness FC, who won against the FC Old Boys 4-3. Thank you to everyone who came to play or support, and congratulations to Joe Leslie (Furness Alumni) who won the Furthest Travelled Award after getting here all the way from Chicago!

Represent your country at the intercollegiate Wave Your Flag night on Wednesday! You can come in your national dress, or wrap up in your flag. They’ll be food, free sugar entry (first come first served) and music from all over the world. The night starts in Grizdale bar at 9pm.

End of Term Brunch

On Friday, the Welfare team will be holding a brunch to celebrate the end of second term. Swap your cornflakes for some great free food and a well-deserved break after all your handwork.

Quiz

We’re taking the hobbits to Isengard in this week’s quiz, with the specialist topic of…drumroll…Lord of the Rings! Bring all your LoTR knowledge, from The Shire, to Mordor, to second breakfast, down to Trev on Wednesday at 7:30pm for the last quiz of second term! As always, £1 to play.

Trev’s Times – WEEK EIGHTEEN

Hello there Furnessians! It’s week 18, the easter break is approaching. How are we all getting on with these strikes, hm? Got to love crawling out of bed just to find out your lectures are cancelled. Anyway, we’ve still got news for you guys. Let’s get on with it, shall we?

FTO Elections!

You’ll probably have noticed the posters around campus, but if you haven’t – it’s vote fest! This is the chance to vote for who YOU would like to be your next full time officers for 2018/19. Hustings will be TONIGHT (5th March – 6pm) at Barker House Farm, where you can ask your questions both out loud and online. Plus – free drinks!
Voting closes at 4pm on Friday, and results night will be in Sugar at 7pm – where there will also be the premiere of  the Roses 2018 video!

Rep Applications

Just a reminder that applications for Welcome Week (+rest of the year) Reps are due this Wednesday at 1pm. It’s an amazing opportunity to meet new people, gain valuable experience and make someone’s first year at uni great (plus it’s something to add to your CV). If you haven’t applied yet, applications can be found in the post box room (behind the porters).

Patriots

On the subject of signing up for things…sign up for PATRIOTS!! The 10th Anniversary is fast approaching (the 16th and 17th March) and we need your help! There’s plenty to join in with and watch, including rounders, badminton, dodgeball, e-sports and much more! Sign up here, or from the Furness Sport page, and check out the Patriots Cup page here

Quiz

As always, the quiz is on – same time, same place…and by that I mean in Trev, on Wednesday at 7pm. This week’s specialist topic: British Comedy! Bring down your friends (preferably comedy fans) and do your best to get those winnings. £1 to play.

Coffee Morning

If all those deadlines are beginning to get on top of you, come to our Welfare coffee morning this Friday (9th March), as we focus on everything relaxation. Furness Foyer, 11am-2pm.
To find more from our Welfare team, including money-saving tips as part of the Money-Matters campaign, check out the Welfare page here.

Carter Shield

The next round of the Carter Shield is on Sunday (11th March), and this time, it’s Capture the Flag.  Come down to the 3G pitch at 2pm and help keep us at the top of that league (I mean it, we’re beating Lonsdale, guys). It’s a lot of fun, and no experience is needed. See you there!

Sports

Last week, we took a break from sports…almost.

On Tuesday Ollie Knight organised another successful charity pool tournament to raise money for Whizz-Kids. We ended up raising £95.26! So thank you to everyone who came.
Despite the best efforts of Kieron Badesha to defend his title, he lost out to Jak Newby – congratulations!

This week, sports is back as usual:
Bar sports are up against Cartmel (Monday/ Tuesday 7pm)
Football A’s v Grizdale (Wednesday)
Football B’s v Bowland (Saturday 5pm)
Netball A’s v County (Tuesday 6pm)
Netball B’s v Fylde (Wednesday 2pm)

And that’s it! There’s a lot going on in the next few weeks, especially with end of term exams/ deadlines coming up. If it’s all getting a bit too much, have a Juicafe on me…
or a Greggs pasty…
or a Sultans…
Anyway, see you next week, folks! I’m off for some cheesy chips…
