LEAVERS INFORMATION

As in most families (and the Furness family is no different) we like to keep in touch with family members.  I will be emailing you in the next week to ask for snippits of information on what you will be doing next and for future contact details.  I hope you will be willing to provide this for us so that we can keep you informed on what is happening in the College and invite you back to visit!

Cracking the confidence issue – strategies to build self-confidence This session will help you to understand what self-confidence means and why we need it. We will look at strategies for developing more self-confidence, some of which are fairly easy to adopt, whilst others require more practice. The strategies apply to many different situations including interviews, seminars, the work environment and social situations. The group will be kept small to allow everyone to feel comfortable contributing. What are employers looking for in your CV and how do they judge your suitability? This workshop will concentrate mainly on how you should be using your CV as a marketing document and effectively promoting yourself to employers / vacancies. Focus on Event Planning – 2 day course Do you want the experience of running an event? In this exciting short course, you will have the chance to learn briefly about key event planning, then get to plan an event in real life. On the first day, we will explore some theories about event planning, and experienced fund raisers in the charity sector will share their advice and knowledge. You’ll then plan and run a charity fundraising event in your groups in your own time. Help will be available should you need it, from your charities and careers staff. On the second day, you can share with the whole group how your team did and get some valuable feedback from your charities and Careers staff. This is a two – part course:  12th May and 2nd June 2015. You must attend both parts. By signing up to day one, you will be automatically enrolled onto day two as well. On 12th May, we are in Furness LT 3 from 10am until 12noon. Invitation to 2015 China UK Entrepreneurship Competition

Do you have an idea for a business venture involving the UK and China?  Do you want to share in the £13,000 cash prize fund? Do you want expert advice and comments on your business idea? Do you want to build your international network of contacts? Then join the China-UK Entrepreneurship Competition 2015!

The China-UK Entrepreneurship Competition aims to encourage new university based business ventures between China and the United Kingdom, and is intended to simulate the real-world process of entrepreneurs soliciting start-up funds from early-stage investors and venture capital firms. The competition is part of the PMI2 (Prime Minister Initiative II) Connect project supported by British Council, and the Confucius Institute Initiative funded by Hanban.

Teams will be selected to participate in this competition for:

  • A cash prize fund for the 4 finalists of £13,000
  • A possible free work space in London for up to one year provided by Cocoon Global ltd
  • An investment opportunity of £500,000 for the best business plans

Moving On Up

This short workshop explores tips, techniques and things to think about as you move into your first graduate level job. Leading graduate recruiters will cover how to manage the big transition from being a student into having a graduate level job, and also discuss important workplace etiquette issues. This will be of most benefit to you if you are a final year student who is about to embark on this change.
