Bev’s Hills – Week 17

Blimey Bill there’s a lot to talk about this week.

How many Cartmellians does it take to change a lightbulb?
Don’t be ridiculous, someone from Cartmel couldn’t change a lightbulb.

Freshers’ Rep Talk

Let’s get down to business. If you’re still around next academic year and you’re interested in being a Freshers’ Rep then come to our talk on Tuesday 4th next week at 6pm in Elizabeth Livingston LT to find out more. Being a rep is an incredibly important and rewarding role and it looks great on your CV so it’s a win-win situation.

Mind Your Own Business

If you’re a budding entrepreneur with an idea you want to make a reality or if you’ve already set up a business and believe you would benefit from having an office on campus in the Furness buildings, you need to enter Mind Your Own Business! Applications are open now and close on Friday of week 8 so get a move on and email Sham at [email protected] with information about how you’d use this office space.

The Patriots’ Cup

If somehow you still aren’t aware, the Patriots’ Cup between Furness and Cartmel is taking place predominantly on Friday and Saturday of this week. To find out more and get involved join the Facebook group here. The opening night is this Wednesday in Trev, join the event for that here.

Carter Shield

The Carter Shield took place on Sunday and Furness came third! Great effort, so nice one to everyone who came and a reminder that the next event is Korfball in Week 9.

Democracy Related Stuff

We are holding a General Meeting next Monday (the 3rd), here is the: Facebook event. We will be voting to pass some changes to the bye-law and following the meeting we will hold a mini-hustings where one Media & Communications Officer will be officially elected.

You’ve probably started to notice a million posters being plastered around campus telling you to vote for this or that. Yep, it’s FTO elections! Furness had the highest voter turnout in the JCR elections which is a pretty impressive achievement for the smallest college, so let’s try and keep that title and don’t forget to have your say when voting opens next week. Vote Fest is taking place next Thursday in Alex Sq. where there’ll be candidate speeches, free stuff, competitions, entertainment… and much more!

Action for Happiness

Get ready for Action for Happiness all next week, a campaign aimed at making you happy. Because you matter. We’ll be in Alex Sq. every day from 12-2pm and if you complete 5 challenges you’ll get a free Sugarhouse ticket. More to follow on that soon.

Jam in Furness / Cocktails

Jam-In-Furness is happening on Thursday of Week 8 which is an evening featuring live jazz music, and this term it’s also a cocktail night – so a great excuse to dress up and act all sophisticated. Can’t wait to see you there!

If you made it to the end of this week you deserve a gold star. Unfortunately I don’t have any gold stars so a pat on the back will have to suffice. Unfortunately I don’t know who you are or where you are so a vague sense of self-achievement will have to do…
