15 Hour Bar Crawl

THE 15 HOUR THEME HAS BEEN RELEASED – HEROES VS. VILLAINS!!

Tickets are on sale on WEDNESDAY 31st (Halloween!!) from 12pm – 4pm in the Furness TV Room. Tickets are limited so make sure to get there on time, with either your Purple Card or your Library Card and CASH to hand.

Halloween Movie Night

Head down to the TV Room on Thursday night (1st November) from 7:30  – keep your eyes peeled for the poll to vote on which Halloween film you’d most like to watch!

Sports Fixtures

Last week, Furness Bar Sports went up against Lonnie! Women’s Pool won 5-4 and Women’s Darts won 6-1. Men’s A Team Pool lost 6-3, B Team won 8-1 and Men’s Darts lost 7-2.

Table Tennis won 18-1.

Winter Ball

Tickets are on sale NOW for the Furness Winter Ball (linked here)! The ball is taking place at Netherwood Hall on December 11th. We can’t wait to see you there at this magical night! For more information head to the Facebook event page!

Debating

Furness needs YOU!

The introduction to the first Inter-College Debating Challenge is taking place on Monday 29th October (tonight!), at 7pm in Bowland North Seminar Room 6.

Although the competition is open to first year students, second and final year students are able to help with planning and research.   If you are interested then do please come along to the induction event!

Resilience Workshop

Board Games and Spooky Brews! Go along and join the Lancaster University Transitions team while taking a break from your studies and enjoy some festive fun!  Tuesday 30th October, 12pm – 2pm in Fylde Common Room.

Trev’s Times – WEEK THREE

Furness! How is it week 3 already?! Felt like just yesterday we were meeting all the freshers at the welcome talk! Anyway, here’s what’s going on this week…

New Socials Officer!

Say hello to your new Socials and Events officer: Joe Fundrey! Joe has lots of new, inclusive ideas for events and is keen to hear your ideas as well!

15 Hour!

 

It’s getting closer to the 15 hour!! The theme will be released very soon, along with all the info you need on tickets and where to get them. We can’t wait!

Welfare Breakfast

 

This Wednesday, we will be holding the first Welfare breakfast of the year! Don’t miss out on some free food, good company and a chance to meet your welfare team! Furness Foyer on Wednesday, 9am-11am

 

Quiz

 

We’ll be bringing a bit of bippity-boppity-boo to this week’s quiz, with a specialist topic of…Disney! You will also get to meet your new socials officer, Joe! Wednesday – 7:30pm in Trev. £1 a head to play.

Late Night Shopping 

The Students’ Union have teamed up with the Lancaster Business Improvement District and a whole host of Lancaster businesses to hold a late-night shopping extravaganza with loads of great student deals. They’ll  also be turning Market Square into a mini-fairground with DJ, fairground rides, stalls and competitions! Thursday 25th October from 4pm-8pm. Don’t miss out!

Trev’s Times – WEEK TWO

Hello again, Furnessians! Can you believe that the first week is already over – crazy, right? Hopefully, it has gone well for you and that you’re all settled in for this year whether you’re a first, second, third or even fourth year! Here we are again, to give you the lowdown of what Week 2 has to offer…

Furness College JCR needs another Socials and Events Officer to work alongside the lovely Alex and Fran who are super excited to welcome newcomers to the team! If you’re interested, please send in your manifesto to the Furness College Facebook page (just send it in a message or attach the file in the message) by WEDNESDAY 17TH OCTOBER!! 

This is such an important role within the college and means you get to have a say in the organisation of events – particularly in the build-up to the 15 Hour… speaking of…

#BiteClub is launching on Tuesday 16th October! It’s a cooking demo for healthy Mexican Rice! You’ll be taught how to make Mexican Rice, get cooking tips and tricks from the university’s head chef, and try the finished dish for yourself afterwards!

Black History Month is all about coming together and celebrating African and Caribbean origin in British history. The Student’s Union is hosting a huge range of events open to everyone, which are about celebrating, appreciating, learning and listening. All events are ongoing throughout October, so you can find out more here about what else is going on!

International Volunteering

Want to learn more about ethical volunteering? Want to support community-based projects abroad? Go to the Intervol welcome talk – Fylde LT2, 7pm, Thursday 25th OctoberThe exec will be holding a presentation on international volunteering projects that are available this summer. The talk will cover how to apply and what’s involved when volunteering with Intervol.

There will be a chance to ask questions and chat to exec members on the day but do feel free to contact us for more information or check out our society page and social media ahead of this. If you cannot make the event please contact us for alternative information.

 Do Good in The Wood 

 

If you’re interested in volunteering, Do Good in the Wood is for you! It’s the best way to relax and unwind whilst doing something good for the environment and people. The Furness trip is on October 21st so register your interest quickly! More information can be found on the Facebook page, here!

Trev’s Times – WEEK ONE

FURNESS! It’s a brand new year of uni and you know what that means…Trev’s Times is back! Bet you’ve missed those Monday Morning emails, haven’t you? For all our new readers, Trev’s Times is Furness’ weekly newsletter giving you all the info on events, sports and anything you might need to know about living the Furness-life. Let’s crack on with week one, shall we?

Freshers Week!

Would just like to acknowledge what an amazing Freshers week it’s been this year. We hope you all had a great time! Thank you so much to all the reps who gave up their week to help the freshers settle in, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Sports

 Football Trials will take place on Monday 8th October at 6pm. Meet in Trev at 5:30pm. Netball trials will take place on Wednesday 1pm-2pm and Thursday 5pm-6pm. Meet in Furness Foyer 15 minutes before. For netball, all who join will be placed in a team, the trials will simply decide which team according to ability!

 Most of you will hopefully know about the JCR already, but just in case, they are your Junior Common Representatives are elected by you guys to help the college, run events and communicate with the students. Do Good in the Wood

If you are interested in volunteering, check out Do Good in the Wood! It’s a great way to get away for a bit, do something nice for the planet and meet some great people! For more information, check out the Facebook event here.

 Intercollegiate Debate Team

 If you like arguing with people then join the debate team! To compete each college will need a minimum of three people taking part in order fill all three speaking roles. There will be an introduction on Monday 29 October from 7pm 8pm. For more information click here!

 Look After Your Mate Training

 Learn useful tips to look after your mates whilst at University. We know that students turn to other students when experiencing difficulties and so we will be running several ‘Look After Your Mate’ workshops throughout the term that will give you the necessary tips and tools to support a friend in need.
The workshop includes:
•             Key practical tips for supporting a friend
•             Spotting signs in a friend
•             How to start a conversation
•             How to support a friend: Listening and learning.
•             Signposting to support
•             Looking after your own wellbeing as a supporter
Best of all, the workshop is FREE!!!  It counts towards the Lancaster Award and is a great addition to your CV. It is also a very valuable workshop for Fresher’s reps, JCR reps and anyone in a supportive role. To sign up, please register here.
Once you have registered you will not receive a confirmation email however, we will email you a reminder a few days before the workshop. The location is specified when you register for the event.
