Sorry we’re a little bit late this week, but we will make up for it because tomorrow we will be revealing your Fresher’s Week timetable! *Insert cheers here* I’m sure you can’t wait to find out what you will be up to, we have a week full of activities and events planned out for you to really kick start your time at university! Make sure you are following Furness College on social media (Facebook and Instagram) because every hour from 1pm on Sunday 10th September we will be revealing the week we have planned for you!
For a lot of you this will be your first ever Fresher’s Week, and although I am sure you have heard lots about it you probably still aren’t exactly sure about what to expect when you arrive. Furness is a family and as the smallest college on campus it is pretty easy to get to know the majority of it’s members. By the end of Fresher’s Week, you will at least know the faces of most of the people you will be sharing a college with for the next three or four years, and that goes a long way in helping you feel settled quickly at Lancaster.
Here are a few Fresher’s Week FAQ’s, hopefully they will help to answer some of your burning questions!
Is Fresher’s Week compulsory?
I’m sure you know by now that there will be a weeks worth of events for you to get involved in, some are compulsory (like the welcome talk and registration) and others entirely optional. Your days can be filled with tours, games and fresher’s fairs and your evenings have the option of going one of two ways because aside from the themed nights we have planned for you to enjoy, we also have special reps around for quieter nights in with games and/or movies if that’s what you would prefer. We know that one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to social activities and so we have tried to accommodate to all!
The social events in fresher’s week are not compulsory, but I recommend that you get involved in as much as possible as it is a great way for you to meet other people around the college! If you have any questions about the options available then you can talk to your flat or block reps when you arrive, they will be happy to try and help you find activities that suit you.
What are Reps?
Each flat will be assigned at least one fresher’s representative. This will be a second, third or fourth year student in Furness who will be around to help you settle in, find your way and accompany you on your fresher’s week activities! Their main role is to ensure you know when and where you should be. They will be with you over the week to make sure you are safe and don’t get lost and they will be your first point of contact should you need anything or have any questions!
You will also have a block rep, these are each members of Furness’ JCR (Junior Common Room) They will be around all day everyday over freshers week (and beyond) organising the activities and to answer any other burning questions you might have.
Do we need to buy Fresher’s Week Tickets?
No!! There is no need for you to buy any of the freshers week tickets you might see circulating social media and the internet! Entry to most of our official events are covered by your fresher’s wristband and t-shirt that you will receive when you arrive at Lancaster. (There are three specific trips/events over freshers week that have limited spaces and will require tickets though these will not be available to buy on social media and you will receive specific details regarding these events when they are revealed on Sunday!)
Where do we go when we arrive?
Don’t worry! 🙂 If you can get yourself to Lancaster it will all be pretty obvious from there! Park yourself up somewhere near Furness (follow the purple shirts and look out for our mountain) and from there you will be surrounded by the reps and the JCR who will all be wearing purple Furness t-shirts. They will take you exactly where you need to go to get your keys, show you to your room and help you carry all of your bags. Get yourself unpacked and settled and that’s all you need to do until your Reps meet you in your flat later on in the day!
What do I wear for Fresher’s Week?
Your reps will keep you up to date on what to wear for the events over the week, whether that be one of your t-shirts that we will provide in your welcome pack, an outfit to suit one of our themes or something else. Don’t worry about making too much effort before you get here, most of the time we will ask you to wear your fresher’s tops so that we know who and where you are!
If you have any other specific questions feel free to message our Facebook page and we will get back to you as soon as possible! Moving in day is coming up fast and we can’t wait to finally meet you all! We hope you are as excited as we are!
See you soon,
