Welfare Drop in Sessions

Welfare drop in sessions restart this week. If you have a particular issue that you want to talk about, or just fancy a chat, come and see Becca, Charlie, Isabella or Eilidh.

Welfare Officers:

Becca Hall: Tuesday 4-6pm in the JCR office.

Charlie Pepper: Friday 11am-1pm in Trevor.

International Student Experience Officer:

Isabella Trapani: Wednesday 10-11am in the JCR office.

Education & Opportunities Officer:

Eilidh Nicol: Thursday 1-2pm in Trevor.

2014 Beer and Cider Festival

Yes – it is that time of year and Furness is proud to host its 2014 BIGGER and BETTER Beer and Cider Festival!

We have a full and varied programme of entertainment, as well as a selection of outstanding beers and ciders for your to enjoy.

The Festival opens on Thursday 4th December at 5.00pm, and our evenings entertainment is a comedy night which will be held in the Foyer.  The numbers for this are limited and we are asking for a College donation of £2.00 to Bev in the College Office, to reserve your place.  Our line up is:

Friday 5th December – at 8.00pm Barry Lucas will present a talk on When the Big Bands came to Lancaster.  Barry was at Lancaster in the 70’s and 80’s and was responsible for some of the biggest bands coming to perform at Lancaster University.  From The Beatles, to Tina Turner, The Smiths, and many many more.

There will be an Open Mic night in Furness JCR from 9.00pm.

Saturday 6th December – 7.30pm is Casino time.  UK Croupier will be providing a fun casino with a prize for the biggest winner.  A BBQ will be in the Quad for those who are hungry!

Sunday – if there is any Beer/Cider left then come along and finish it off!


When Worlds Collide – Furness Extrav 2014


This year’s Extrav theme is When Worlds Collide – the coming together of four different universes for the ultimate end of year blow out! With endless costume possibilities, we’re expecting big things in the fancy dress department this year. We’ve also got some incredible music acts for you this year with the likes of DJ Caino, Phil Rostance & The Marshall Band, Cleopatrawr, DJ Hecs and Katie Walker. It’s an event that will be simply out this (or any other) world!

Graduation Day is one of the highlights of the College year, and we look forward to sharing this big occasion with our Graduands, their families, partners and friends.

Closing date for ceremony ticket requests is Friday 11th April 2014.  Two guests are guaranteed, and any extra ticket requests will be dealt with by our Central Ceremonies Office after the initial allocation has been made.

The Furness College ceremony will take place at 4.30pm on Tuesday 15th July.

Our College will be holding an Afternoon Cream Tea before the ceremony, starting at 1.00pm.  Information and booking form are being sent to home addresses over Easter.  This is always a really popular event, and tickets are on a first come first served basis.  Tickets cannot be purchased on the day.

Good luck to all our final year students with their exams, and we hope to see you on Graduation Day.

Jam-In-Furness Returns! 7th March


What better way to end our second annual Action for Happiness Week than coming down to Trev on the evening of the 7th of March for an evening of classic entertainment in the form of Paul Palmer’s Jazz quartet.

Paul plays regularly at Zefirelli’s in Ambleside, at the Keswick Jazz Festival and last summer he played at Lancaster Jazz. His regular haunt is Hope and Anchor in Ulverston, but he plays throughout Cumbria and Lancashire.
