Hello Furnessians! It’s week FIVE and that means we’re halfway through third term already… time flies when you’re having fun, hey? Or maybe it just flies when you have deadlines – either way, the year is nearly over and you’re surviving! Pretty big one for you this week so let’s get started!

Trev Quiz

As always, our Trev Quiz never lets us down and is back again this Wednesday at 7.30pm! This week the specialist topic is Charmed so bring £1, a few friends and make your way to Trev for a night of quizzing and the chance to win some cash for you and your friends!

Volunteering Away Days

The Student Union’s Internationalisation and Community Team are organizing College Volunteering Away Days. This event gives you the chance to have some fun and socialising whilst also getting involved in some volunteering at the same time! Furness have been selected to go to the YMCA Pattersdale Estate in Cumbria on June 17 and so if you are interested in taking part, online applications open on May 24th and close on June 1st.

Look After Your Mate

University can be a very stressful time for many people and we know that students are more likely to talk to their friends over anyone else. Knowing how to help your friend in these situations can be very difficult and so there will be several ‘Look After Your Mate’ workshops running to provide you with tips on how you can help.

Training Dates are:

Wednesday 23rd May 2018 – 1.30pm – 4.30pm

Wednesday 6th June – 1.30pm – 4.30pm

Ingleton Waterfalls Trip

If you fancy a break away from Campus, there is an amazing chance to go on a trip to the Ingleton Waterfalls on Saturday 2nd June, leaving campus at 9.30am. Entry to the waterfalls is £6, to be paid on site, but if you would like to reserve a seat on the minibus, please email Lorna at

Trev Fundraising Event

Our beloved bar Trev is hosting a fundraising quiz on June 26th from 7pm. There will be an hour of quizzing, followed by a performance from Trip – the winners of this year’s battle of the bands! We recommend a donation of £5 – with all proceeds going straight to Centrepoint, a charity tackling homelessness among young people in the UK.


Last but not least – and I’m sure you’ve heard plenty about it – we have Extrav! We are so excited about this year’s theme which will be revealed THIS FRIDAY at 1.30pm, keep an eye out! Extrav is the perfect way to celebrate the past year with a huge event, each one run by the college’s JCRs! This year is set to be incredible so WATCH THIS SPACE. Be sure to follow our event on Facebook to stay up to date with all things Extrav – including how and when to buy tickets!

Richard Slatter Memorial Pool Tournament 

The annual pool tournament, in memory of Richard Slatter, will be held in Trev this Saturday (the 19th). The tournament starts at 12pm, but sign-ups will take place at 11am. All are welcome, though priority will be given to you Furnessians.


Relaxation Night!

For those of you who are in need of some de-stressing, keep the 29th May open for some extreme relaxation! Watch this space for more details, you won’t want to miss out!

Royal Wedding Coffee Morning 

This time, your welfare coffee morning is taking on a royal theme, just in time for the Royal Wedding! Come on down to Furness Foyer on Friday (11am -2pm) to treat yourself to some sophisticated food fit for Queen Lizzie!


Royal Wedding Street Party

If the coffee morning wasn’t enough celebration, join us for an inter-college party (and some afternoon tea) in Alex Square on the 19th May (this Saturday) to watch the Royal Wedding on the big screen. Find more information here.

Happy week twenty-three Furnessians! I hope you have all enjoyed the amazing weather that this bank holiday weekend brought us! I can’t hold myself back from talking about Roses any longer so let’s get straight into this week’s Trev’s Times shall we?

Roses are Red!

Ahhhh what an incredible weekend that was! The sun was out, the whole of Lancaster came together, six Furness Presidents were reunited and we proved, without doubt and an incredible 99 point lead, that roses definitely are in fact red! For the first time in (as far as I am aware) ever, we had won Roses before Saturday’s events were even over, allowing us to go into SUNday with the win and lots of suncream! In the end Lancaster closed the weekend with our final win in Men’s 1st Rugby Union, leaving the scoreboard looking like this … 



Trev’s Quiz is here as always this Wednesday at 7.30pm! It is just £1 per person to play and be in with the chance of a cash prize and some guaranteed fun! This weeks theme is… Takeaway Food! So brush up on any students favourite kind of meal and come show off your knowledge!

Jam in Furness

Don’t forget to join us for some live music and fun in Trev as we all come together to Jam in Furness. If you would like to play or sing at this event please contact Paul at, and don’t forget to bring your instrument along on the day! Otherwise, we would love to see as many people along as possible to relax and enjoy some live music.

Richard Slatter

This years Richard Slatter Pool Tournament is coming up and will be taking place in our JCR room, by Trev. Sign ups will be held at 11am on the same day, prior to the event. Anyone is welcome to sign up, though priority will be given to Furness College students. If you don’t want to take part in the tournament it would be great to see you come down and support.

Trev’s Times – WEEK TWENTY-TWO

It’s time for week 2! How are we all? Surviving? Maybe don’t do what I did and get hooked on Brooklyn Nine-nine right in the middle of your deadlines/ revision. Let’s see what we’ve got going on this week.


You might want to put revision to one side this weekend because it’s time to prove that ROSES are definitely RED! After several wins in the Men’s running and rowing, Lancaster are in the lead 15-9! Well done you guys! The equestrian event will be on Wednesday, and the rest will go down on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Good luck to everyone competing, the whole uni is behind you! Check out the Roses timetable here

If you are interested in doing your own bit for Roses, the uni is currently looking for stewards to ensure that the weekend runs smoothly. You would be responsible for helping guests with any queries, offering directions and taking questions and problems to the relevant supervisor. National Student Money

This week in Lancaster is the National Student Money week. Head down the Alex Square on Thursday, from 10am to 4pm to meet the members of the Fees and Funding team to get some money-saving tips and ask your questions! And if that wasn’t enough, don’t miss out not he chance to win a trolley full of shopping or even a Kindle Fire!

Mind Fest


Mind Fest is back and better than ever! Come down to Alex Square and the Chaplaincy centre from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday to get involved in inflatable fun, sports, meditation, free food and so much more!

Assistant Deans

Are you moving on to be a post grad and need some extra pennies? Furness are looking for Assistant Deans for the academic year 2018/19. You will be working 11.5 hours per week on an 11 months fixed term contract – Sept-July (NB: for Tier 4 international students these 11.5 hours contributes to the 20 hours of work permitted whilst in the UK) and working on grade 3 rate of pay (£16654-£18263) pro rate plus annual leave. For a job description and application information please email your contact details to The deadline for applications is noon on 21st May 2018 and interviews will take place week commencing 11th June 2018.

Trev’s Times – WEEK TWENTY ONE

Happy term three, Furness! Sorry for the slightly late one, a certain dissertation took over my entire brain capacity for a while, but we’re back! I hope you all had a relaxing Easter break, though I know some of you will have been hibernating in the library for the past few weeks and probably had no idea a break was even on the cards – hang on in there, you’ve got this!

It’s back! We know you missed it over the past four weeks but our beloved weekly quiz is back and this week’s theme is… GRIME!

Head down for some fun and a well-deserved break from revision and coursework! As always it is just £1 a head to play – see you there! We’ve missed you!


This time of the year might be overshadowed with revision but don’t be fooled, it is also one of the best times of the Lancaster year, because next week, on 4th May, Roses kicks off! A weekend full of our best athletes competing against York in a battle to prove that roses are most definitely red! You can buy a roses supporter pack (including this year’s Roses shirt) through Student’s Union! And you can find out all the information you need for the entire weekend on this website!

Jam-in Furness

We’ll be jamming the night away on Friday 18th May in Trev for a Jam-in-Furness night from 8pm! Anyone can attend this event for free and if you would like to join in, singing or playing an instrument we would love to have you perform! Richard Slatter Memorial Pool Competition

It’s soon time for the annual Richard Slatter Memorial Pool Competition which will take place in the JCR Room on Saturday 19th May at 12pm. Sign-ups will begin soon so be sure to keep an eye out for details on that!

Trev’s Times – WEEK TWENTY

So week 20 is finally here, it’s nearly time for the Easter break! I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t wait. I also can’t wait for some warmer weather. Shout out to everyone who braved the wind and cold to watch the outdoor sports this last weekend, hope you’ve got the feeling back in your toes. Anyway, here’s what’s going on this week.


A big big thank you to everyone who came to take part in or support Patriots. It was a long but fun weekend, and it was great to see so many of you there. A big congratulations to Cartmel for their win. It was a close one, but we are so so proud of all you Furnessians. A shout out to our amazing sports officers Tom and Jess for all their hardwork organising Patriots. We hope you guys had a great time. Looking forward to next year!

Nick Lewis Memorial Match

On Saturday we had held our annual Nick Lewis Memorial Football Match. Well done to Furness FC, who won against the FC Old Boys 4-3. Thank you to everyone who came to play or support, and congratulations to Joe Leslie (Furness Alumni) who won the Furthest Travelled Award after getting here all the way from Chicago!

Wave Your Flag


Represent your country at the intercollegiate Wave Your Flag night on Wednesday! You can come in your national dress, or wrap up in your flag. They’ll be food, free sugar entry (first come first served) and music from all over the world. The night starts in Grizdale bar at 9pm.

End of Term Brunch

On Friday, the Welfare team will be holding a brunch to celebrate the end of second term. Swap your cornflakes for some great free food and a well-deserved break after all your handwork.

We’re taking the hobbits to Isengard in this week’s quiz, with the specialist topic of…drumroll…Lord of the Rings! Bring all your LoTR knowledge, from The Shire, to Mordor, to second breakfast, down to Trev on Wednesday at 7:30pm for the last quiz of second term! As always, £1 to play.

Trev’s Times – WEEK EIGHTEEN

Hello there Furnessians! It’s week 18, the easter break is approaching. How are we all getting on with these strikes, hm? Got to love crawling out of bed just to find out your lectures are cancelled. Anyway, we’ve still got news for you guys. Let’s get on with it, shall we?

FTO Elections!

You’ll probably have noticed the posters around campus, but if you haven’t – it’s vote fest! This is the chance to vote for who YOU would like to be your next full time officers for 2018/19. Hustings will be TONIGHT (5th March – 6pm) at Barker House Farm, where you can ask your questions both out loud and online. Plus – free drinks!
Voting closes at 4pm on Friday, and results night will be in Sugar at 7pm – where there will also be the premiere of  the Roses 2018 video!

Rep Applications 

Just a reminder that applications for Welcome Week (+rest of the year) Reps are due this Wednesday at 1pm. It’s an amazing opportunity to meet new people, gain valuable experience and make someone’s first year at uni great (plus it’s something to add to your CV). If you haven’t applied yet, applications can be found in the post box room (behind the porters).


On the subject of signing up for things…sign up for PATRIOTS!! The 10th Anniversary is fast approaching (the 16th and 17th March) and we need your help! Coffee Morning

If all those deadlines are beginning to get on top of you, come to our Welfare coffee morning this Friday (9th March), as we focus on everything relaxation. Furness Foyer, 11am-2pm.

Carter Shield 

The next round of the Carter Shield is on Sunday (11th March), and this time, it’s Capture the Flag.  Come down to the 3G pitch at 2pm and help keep us at the top of that league (I mean it, we’re beating Lonsdale, guys). It’s a lot of fun, and no experience is needed. See you there!


Last week, we took a break from sports…almost.

On Tuesday Ollie Knight organised another successful charity pool tournament to raise money for Whizz-Kids. We ended up raising £95.26! So thank you to everyone who came.
Despite the best efforts of Kieron Badesha to defend his title, he lost out to Jak Newby – congratulations!

If you’re interested in welcoming our new set of Furnessian’s, making sure they settle into our little Furness family, and improving your CV then you can pick up an application form from the post box room (behind the porters). Trev’s Times – WEEK SIXTEEN

New week, new edition of Trev’s Times! Week 6, folks. Hope the deadlines aren’t getting too heavy – not long until the Easter hols now! Here’s what’s going on this week.

Gin Fest

Gin Fest is back! Come down to Trev from Wednesday (21st) to Saturday (24th) for Furness’ annual celebration of all things gin. With plenty of great entertainment, a selection of cocktails and, of course, GIN, we can guarantee a good time.
The weekly quiz will be taken over by Finn (the bar manager) as part of the festival.

Condom Giveaway 

This Wednesday your welfare team will be joining up with the other colleges to give out free condoms and answer all your questions on sexual health and contraception.

Breakfast and Chill

Speaking of welfare, there will be a sexual health breakfast this Friday for you guys to find out even more on the subject. There will be the usual food (plus bananas and condoms). Furness foyer, 11am-2pm.

Trev’s Times – WEEK FIFTEEN

Another Monday another Trev’s Times… And speaking of time – isn’t it just flying? It’s week 15 already, we’re halfway through the year! We’ve got a long one for you this week, Furnessians. There’s a lot going on up in these mountains!

15 Hour Bar Crawl

It’s back! The second 15 hour of the (academic) year is taking place this Saturday 17th February! The theme will be released later on today on our Facebook Page so make sure you keep an eye out for that, we’re very excited and we hope you will be too! Tickets (shirts) will go on sale this Wednesday (what a perfect valentine’s present) at 11am in the TV Room for just £8 a shirt! Don’t be silly and miss out, it’s always a really fun day to remember so be sure to come along!

Cuff Me Up Challenge

Come join us this Valentines Day for a joint social between County and Furness! With the aim of finding new love this Valentines, Lancaster’s own Drag Queen “Candy Cain” will cuff up 15 new couples to compete in a series of challenges across County Bar before we continue in town at D2bar.
